Mace is from the red outer layer of nutmeg which id removed, dried and made into a powder. This spice is mostly used in savoury dishes alongside other spices such as Cinnamon, Chillies, and Coriander. Mace has a similar flavour to nutmeg, but slightly lighter and sweeter, and can turn dishes a rich yellowish colour unlike saffron.
  • Best used added to soups and stews.
  • Blends very well with other spices to make Garam Masala.

How to Use

Ground mace is best used in savoury dishes such as warming soup recipes like Pumpkin Soup. This spice can also be used in baking such as ginger cake. However, mace is best used when combined with other spices to such as within some jerk chicken recipes.

Cooking Tip

Mace can particularly compliment baked recipes containing chocolate and cherries, so try adding a teaspoon to your next chocolate sponge.

Health Benefits

Mace has been known to be used in Chinese and Indian tradition medicine for treating illnesses related to the digestive system as it is thought to help relieve nausea.
